About the Artwork by Goompi

The artwork represents a meeting place for the 2 tribes either side of the Coomera river which is represented up the middle and branches out to the seaway area. The river is the boundary for the tribes, who are The Bullongen and Kombumerri tribes. The centre part is where they come and gather together.

The other U shapes in grey scattered is the family clans of the tribes.

The blue dots in the circle section represents low lying water areas as the Gold Coast line and land was rainforest originally.

The 2 tunnels as such going across the painting from left to right is the ochres that represents the area and used by the people on their bodies as a uniform as such for travel or to state their business, who they are, plus used in corroboree and for other reasons.

The spirals are sand dunes of the area and the untouched ones left in green represent Seahawk nests.

The larger dots filling in painting represents the rest of the land. The rocks represents oyster rocks along the river.

The rectangle spirals in middle are songs. We used to sings songs on journeys to give us a rough estimate of time it takes to get to a location. So a form or measuring distance. This is the people travelling to, in and around the meeting place.

So in my change over the tribal story can be seen with a contemporary connection.

Where the centre part is one group together on an area. The U shapes represent the local community who live in the area and come together on that one space as one. And the travel lines represent the one group travelling together.
